Netflix to Offer 3D Movies, New HD Format for Customers of Select ISPs
Netflix announced Tuesday two new service options for customers with select internet service providers.
The video streaming service introduced a new movie-watching format known as “Super HD” and a limited library of 3D content at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, according to CNET.
Simply put, Netflix’s Super HD is just a higher quality version of its current standard, a 1080p video format. The 3D movies currently offered by Netflix include sports and nature documentaries and titles from 3net Studios.
None of this applies, however, unless you have the right internet service provider. These new viewing options are only available to customers of ISPs who participate in Netflix’s network, Open Connect. Only a few major U.S. ISPs, like Google Fiber and Cablevision, use Open Connect.
You can find out if you have a participating ISP from the Netflix website.
