New Vampire Weekend Album Expected This Spring
Update: According to a report by Pitchfork, Vampire Weekend has official announced a release date for their yet-untitled third album. The album will be available in the U.S. on May 7 and on May 6 in the UK via XL Recordings
According to a feature in Q, Vampire Weekend’s third album, a follow-up to 2010’s Contra, is expected to be released this spring. The album was described as “darker” with a more “organic” sound. The reason for what could be a three-year wait? The material just wasn’t there yet:
“If someone had put a gun to our heads a year ago we could have handed something in and it wouldn’t have sucked,” frontman Ezra Koenig told the magazine. “But if we listen back to our own work and it doesn’t sound the way we wanted, the depression that sets in is really extreme.”
The album was recorded in New York and Los Angeles by Ariel Rechtshaid, who co-produced the album with keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij. The band recently played a new song on Jimmy Kimmel Live, titled “Unbelievers.” Take a listen below.
