Paul Giamatti in Talks to Play The Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2
In a bit of news that is sure to bring back repressed memories of the villain-heavy Spider Man 3, the Amazing Spider-Man 2’s list of villains continues to grow
After confirmed casting of Jamie Foxx as supervillain Electro and Chronicle star Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne, Paul Giamatti is now in talks to play The Rhino, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A popular member of the famous web-crawler’s rogues gallery of villains, The Rhino first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #41 as a minor league Soviet thug who wore an advanced supersuit that gave him extraordinary strength, an impenetrable hide and super speed.
Besides acting as a mindless wrecking machine, The Rhino has also served a central role in some of the most acclaimed Spider-Man stories, including the 2001 Flowers for Rhino story arc in the series Spider-Man’s Tangled Web.
Though no doubt a shock to most, playing the horned villain has apparently always been a childhood dream for the versatile actor.
“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” the Sideways actor told ShowbizSpy back in March 2011. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies,’ but maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me…If they ever go with The Rhino I would be ready and waiting.”
