Planned Star Wars 3D Re-Releases Canceled in Wake of Star Wars VII

More good news for Star Wars fans—no more 3D-re-releases (at least, for the time being).

Deadline reports that Disney wants to focus exclusively on “rebooting the franchise” with the upcoming 2015 release of Episode VII and, thus, has shelved LucasFilm’s previous plans to re-release the previous movies in 3D.

This decision comes as a result of both the underwhelming box-office run of the re-released Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace back in February 2012, which grossed only $23 million domestically, and the instantaneous fan outrage that dubbed the idea a blatant cash grab.
