World-renowned designer Miuccia Prada recently provided British Vogue with four sketches of her work with costume designer Catherine Martin for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
The sketches illustrate the aristocratic 1920s style with inspirations from Prada’s 2011/2012 collections.
“Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past,” Martin told Vogue. “This connection is central to our relationship with Miuccia Prada on The Great Gatsby, and has connected our vision with hers. In the same way Nick Carraway reflects on a world that he is within and without, we have tried to create an environment that the audience will be subconsciously familiar with, yet separated from.”
Starring as female lead Daisy Buchanan, Carey Mulligan will showcase Prada and Martin’s stunning wardrobe. The attire of male leads Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Macguire, who play Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway respectively, was designed by Brooks Brothers.
After over a year of promoting the film, The Great Gatsby will be released in theaters on May 10. The sketches are below.
