Disney Works with Google to Create Oz-Themed Web Experience
The technological innovator that is Google Chrome has come together with Disney to create a next-generation web experience based on the upcoming film Oz: The Great and Powerful.
“Find Your Way to Oz” is a Google tie-in, in-browser web experience based on Sam Raimi’s Oz: The Great and Powerful that allows users to navigate scenes from the film. Additionally, users can capture photos and video with a webcam and have them integrated into their experience.
You navigate the world with your mouse or keypad and the amazing graphics enhance the entire experience (There’s a tornado that gets a little too real, if you ask me.) You can make your own music tune, video or take a ride in a hot air balloon.
Users are able to access the experience without separate party plug-ins such as Flash or Quicktime thanks to WebGL. The experiment also uses WebRTC and Web Audio API, both of which are tools any website developer could incorporate into their own website in various ways that support their content.
Google Chrome has built similar experiences to “Find Your Way to Oz” for OK Go and Arcade Fire in the past.
The experience is available now at FindYourWayToOz.com and the film is out March 8!
Warning: It’s awesome, so don’t start playing it unless you have some time on your hands.
