Inaugural Athens Slingshot Festival Brings Arts, Music and Technology to Georgia

On March 9, Downtown Athens, Georgia, will become the home to the South’s newest arts and technology festival, Athens Slingshot. Building on the town’s already significant reputation, the festival will be a unique collaboration between the University of Georgia and the Athens community at large.

Founded by Kai Reidl, a PhD student at UGA, and Eric Marty, a professor at the Lamar Dodd school of art, Athens Slingshot will spread over three blocks in Downtown Athens and feature over 60 artists and bands from 20 countries. Featured acts include Japanese band The Suzan, Reptar side project Imperceivable Shifts, and New York artist Genevieve Hoffman.

The organizers of Slingshot cite Austin’s SXSW as a key influence on their endeavor, showing the high aspirations of the festival. You can find out more about Athens Slingshot on its website.
