And the string of blockbusters centered on revisionist fairy tales continues.
In the wake of the phenomenal success of Oz The Great and Powerful, Disney is now in talks with U.K. writer Joe Ahearne to develop a live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, according to a report in Deadline.
This will reportedly be a different venture than the Guillermo Del Toro Beauty and the Beast project, which is set to shoot this summer with Harry Potter’s Emma Watson.
Ahearne’s most recent work is his script for the Danny Boyle-directed thriller Trance. Disney is reportedly calling the film The Beast and, with Ahearne’s credits, the film is expected to take a darker tone.
David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville are set as producers and Disney’s LouAnne Brickhouse company will direct the project.
