Focus Features to Acquire Film Rights to Neil Gaiman's New Book
Deadline reports that Focus Features and Playtone Partners, the production company of actor/producer Tom Hanks and producer Gary Goetzman, are currently hammering out a deal to acquire the rights to Neil Gaiman’s upcoming novel The Ocean At The End Of The Lane.
Set to be published in June by William Morrow, the book is—according to the pre-release jacket—about the “power of stories and the darkness inside of us.” The article goes on to outline the plot, which concerns a narrator who must fight against otherworldy creatures that begin tormenting his family. For help, he goes to three women who live in a nearby decrepit farm. One of them claims to remember the Big Bang.
The deal has Anna Karenina and Atonement filmmaker Joe Wright attached to direct the film version.
Playtone is also currently adapting Gaiman’s acclaimed 2001 novel American Gods as a series for HBO.
