Fox Searchlight Acquires Distribution Rights to <i>Twelve Years A Slave</i>

Following the success of Beasts of the Southern Wild earlier this year, it was confirmed the company gained the distribution rights to Wes Anderson’s upcoming The Grand Budapest Hotel. Now, /Film confirms the company will be distributing British director Steve McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave.

The film, co-written and directed by McQueen, is based on the autobiography of Solomon Northup and his experience working as a slave on Louisiana plantations for 12 years.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is set to play Northup with Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Paul Giamatti and newcomer Quvenzhané Wallis also starring.

Searchlight also distributed McQueen’s last film, Shame, which was very well received. Twelve Years A Slave has a set release date for Dec. 27, 2013.
