Karl Urban Signs On to Pilot For J.J. Abrams' Futuristic Cop Drama

Actor Karl Urban is reuniting with J.J. Abrams for the pilot of a futuristic cop drama, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Urban, who played Bones on Abrams’ 2009 film Star Trek, will star in the pilot for Human, a drama slated to premiere on Fox this fall.

Human will feature Urban playing a character named John Kennex, a police officer left traumatized after nine of his fellow officers die during a mission and he is left seriously injured, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

While it seems like your garden-variety cop drama, Human has a twist: it is set in a future where human police officers are paired up with android partners.

Michael Ealy (Think Like a Man) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) are also set to join Urban on Human. Ealy will play Urban’s android partner on the show.
