Athens, Ga.’s Terrapin Beer Co.’s new year-round brew is doing good outside of its amber bottles.
The beer, aptly named “TreeHugger ‘Altcentric’ Ale,” comes with a partnership with the Dogwood Alliance, which was formed in 1996 and is “dedicated to protecting Southern forests and communities from destructive logging practices.” The beer is now available in kegs (1/6 and 1/2), and six-packs are set to arrive in April to Terrapin’s nine states to which it distributes.
Previously, the alt ale was only available for the 2012 Decatur Green Fest, which also supported the Dogwood Alliance. According to a press release, the beer was so well-liked that it was put in production year-round. Here’s Terrapin’s description of the beer:
With a mild herbal spice hop aroma and a malty flavor profile featuring notes of caramel, toffee, and nuts, this malt-forward beer will be a welcome compliment to Terrapin’s current hop-forward roster.
Malts: 2-Row Pale, Munich, CaraMunich III, Melanoidin, DH Carafa II
Hops: Mt. Hood, Vanguard
