Videos from Friday at SXSW: New Flaming Lips, Usher & The Afghan Whigs, and more
Well, Friday at South by Southwest featured a couple of high-profile collaborations and the debut of some high-profile new material. And, someone took videos to share with us at home. Woo!
The Flaming Lips followed up their Yoshimi set with a show that featured new material from The Terror, out April 1. This song, “Always There… In Our Heart” closes the album, and you can hear they are sticking with the sound of their recent collaborative LP.
Speaking of collaborations, a rumor all week was that Justin Timberlake would join The Afghan Whigs for a set and the idea was just ridiculous, right? Well, kind of, only because Usher was already planning on doing that. Strange world we live in, but also an amazing one that gives us gifts like this. Here is the full Whigs set, with Usher coming in near the middle.
Major Lazer, which is essentially just Diplo and friends at this point, were joined by Dirty Projectors singer Amber Coffman to perform their collaboration “Get Free.” Major Lazer recently pushed back their new album, but they will probably release it soon enough.
