After Earth will be arriving in theaters earlier than expected.
Deadline reports that the M. Night Shyamalan-directed sci-fi project, which stars Will Smith and real-life progeny Jaden Smith as a father and son who crash land on an indigenous Earth filled with dangerous creatures, has had its release date moved forward.
Originally slated for a June 7 release date by Sony, the film will now hit theaters on May 31. It will now be competing against the Lionsgate/Summit film Now You See Me and Universal’s The Purge. The article theorizes that the move signals Sony’s attempt to grab an extra week of summer play.
