Guillermo del Toro Developing HBO Series From Japanese Monster Manga
Guillermo del Toro’s list of projects isn’t stopping yet. According to Deadline, del Toro is developing a series based off the incredibly terrifying Japanese Manga by Naoki Urasawa titled Monster for HBO.
Monster is an 18-volume thriller about a 12-year-old boy who turns about to be only the most evil of sociopaths. A young doctor makes it his mission to catch him as he saved the boy’s life once long ago and feels he must reverse the horrible mistake.
According to the report, del Toro will co-write the story along with Dr. Who writer Steven Thompson. The two will also executive produce.
The project, originally lined up at New Line, landed at HBO after it became clear one two-hour film would not do the series justice.
Thompson is set to write the pilot, which del Toro will direct should it be greenlit.
