Jim Carrey has signed on to the ensemble comedy Ricky Stanicky, which will re-pair the actor with Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls writer and director Steve Oedekerk, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the report, Ricky Stanicky is about three friends who, in the aftermath of accidentally burning down a house due to a prank gone horribly wrong, create Ricky Stanicky to be a scapegoat. Fast forward 20 years and the three are still using the fictitious person to get out of various situations. When their wives and girlfriends demand to meet Stanicky, they hire an out-of-work actor to play the part.
Carrey has signed on to play the role of the washed-up actor pretending to be Stanicky.
Carrey’s recent commitment acts as a sort of savior for the film, which has been on the shelf since 2010 when James Franco dropped out of the project.
According to HuffPost, Carrey signed on after Steve Oedekerk agreed to re-write the script and direct. Oedekerk has a history of working with Carrey as he also wrote Bruce Almighty.
Michael De Luca and John Jacobs are set to produce the film which is aiming to begin production this summer.
