One of the greatest and most influential hip-hop groups in the history of the genre, De La Soul has spent the better part of the last decade releasing mashups and remixes of their songs, a few mixtapes and Plug 1 & Plug 2 Present… First Serve, a 2012 album produced by two of the founding members.
In terms of a full-length studio album, however, the group’s last was 2004’s The Grind Date.
That all changed today with the release of their newest song “Get Away (feat. the Spirit of the Wu),” which the band released on SoundCloud earlier today. As expected based on comments made by DJ Maseo in a Rolling Stone interview a few weeks back, the track takes a critical aim at the current trend of hip-hop dominating the charts today.
The song serves as the leadoff single of the forthcoming album You’re Welcome, which is scheduled to be released later this fall.
