Peter Berg to Direct Damon Lindelof's New HBO Show

TV fans, prepare for a Friday Night Lights/Lost crossover.

Well, not really, but still cool nonetheless.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Berg, who parlayed his 2004 film Friday Night Lights into the beloved TV show of the same name (let’s forget Battleship), has signed on to direct and executive produce HBO’s planned adaptation of Tom Perrotta’s best-selling 2011 novel The Leftovers.

Berg joins a creative team that includes Lost co-creator/showrunner Damon Lindelof, who will co-author the script with Perrotta as part of his three-year deal with Warner Bros. Television. Should the show move past the development stage, Lindelof will serve as showrunner.

Published to great fanfare in August 2011, The Leftovers centers on a group of people who found themselves left behind after the world-wide disappearance of over 100 people.
