The Roots to Play on as Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show Band

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon fans can now breathe a sigh of relief. The Roots will indeed follow Fallon to his new job.

The news comes straight from the horse’s mouth. In an interview with Fuse, The Roots drummer Questlove confirmed that the band will be sticking with Fallon for the immediate future.

The Tonight Show is coming to New York, it’s coming to us,” he says. “So basically, you know, it’s going to be the same show. But, right now, that’s a year from now.

Questlove went on to stress how the band serves a more active role in the proceedings than other similar late-night bands.

“I like to think that we’ve kind of enhanced or re-defined the band’s role in a late night TV format,” he says. ”[We’re] not just a person to play you on or play you off.”
