Muppets Director in Talks for Alice in Wonderland Sequel
A few years since Tim Burton took a crack at the film version of Alice in Wonderland, which grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide, Disney is making good on plans to leap down the rabbit hole again with a sequel—this time, without Burton.
Reports suggest that Burton has dropped out from the sequel and that English directer James Bobin is in talks with the studio to replace him. Bobin has already proved he’s got the chops to do the job by reviving the The Muppets franchise, and that he has the humor to tackle Lewis Carroll’s silly plot line as co-creator of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords.
And while Johnny Depp is a shoe-in to reprise his role as the kooky Mad Hatter, he has not officially signed on.
