Lauryn Hill has returned with new music, her first single since 2010, and a lead-up to her first album since 2002’s MTV Unplugged. The release is titled “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix),” an abrasive, hard-hitter that she posted on her Tumblr with the following statement:
Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music
but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!
Hill is currently in the midst of legal woes after failing to file federal income tax returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007. A $1 million deal, first reported by Billboard, is expected to assist with legal fees. Whatever the circumstances, it’s good to hear new output from Ms. Hill.
