Lauryn Hill Sentenced to Three Months in Prison
The AP reports that singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison and an additional three months of house arrest for failing to pay taxes on $1 million of income.
“I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that,” the Grammy-winning singer reportedly told the judge at her sentencing today. Hill’s lawyer said prior to the sentencing that her client has paid over $970,000 of her debts.
Just yesterday, Hill released a new single, “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix),” which you can listen to here. She posted a message to her Tumblr along with the single saying that she was “required to release” it “immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline.”
No word yet on when or where Hill will report to prison.
