Tom Cruise Backs Out of Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Tom Cruise has pulled out of the lead role in the upcoming Warner Bros. remake of the 1960s TV show The Man from U.N.C.L.E. to focus on the next Mission: Impossible film, Deadline reported today.

Cruise was slated to star alongside Armie Hammer (The Social Network, J.Edgar) as the two-man team of secret agents working for the United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) when the Guy Ritchie-directed movie began filming this fall but was forced to depart after Paramount and Skydance upped the production date of Mission:Impossible 5 to the end of the year.

Cruise, who serves as producer for the successful film franchise, has been heavily involved in the pre-production process of past M:I films and is expected to have a similar role in the fifth installment of the series.

The article states Warner Bros. and Ritchie are still hopeful to find a replacement for Cruise and begin filming this fall as scheduled.
