The James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy is swiftly becoming one of the largest-cast films in Marvel movie history. The first installment of what’s set to be a continuing franchise for the company, Guardians of the Galaxy has already gotten a knock-out collection of actors signed on for the film including Chris Pratt, Glenn Close, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and now, according to Deadline, Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro.
While no news of Benicio’s role has been released yet, it has been confirmed by Deadline that he’s playing a character that’s set to be a part of future Marvel films. Benicio is rumored to be playing Thanos, the Galactic super-villain whose appearance in Avengers 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy was hinted at after the credits to The Avengers.
This will be the first Marvel film not related to The Avengers that Disney develops. Filming is set to begin this summer, and the film is expected to be released on Aug. 1, 2014.
