Fox Looking to Acquire Choose Your Own Adventure Film Rights
20th Century Fox is in the process of acquiring the rights to a film adaptation of the popular 1980s book line Choose Your Own Adventure, THR is reporting.
The successful book series was the brainchild of Edward Packard, who eventually partnered with R.A. Montgomery to create the books. Choose Your Own Adventure lasted until the late ’90s and sold over 250 million copies worldwide.
If you’re familiar with the books—or books like them—you know that they allow readers to choose what path characters take every few pages. Each decision leads to a different, possibly unpleasant, fate.
John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment are attached to produce the action-adventure film version, which the studio hopes will be a crossplatform “four-quadrant” franchise. Original author Montgomery is expected to serve as executive producer.
Exactly how Fox will successfully achieve an adaptation of such a convoluted story structure that relies on audience participation remains to be seen, but the feat should be interesting to watch unfold.
