This morning IFC announced the stacked cast for their upcoming mini-series spoof set to debut in 2014, The Spoils of Babylon. Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele (Casa De Mi Padre) wrote the series and Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are attached as executive producers for this epic spoof based on a fictional author’s best-selling novel. With Tim Robbins, Toby Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Jessica Alba and Val Kilmer serving as a few of the acclaimed actors slated to star in this 2014 series, things are looking exceptionally exciting.
IFC’s press release states The Spoils of Babylon is “a century-spanning saga [that] chronicles the sexy and dramatic lives of the Morehouse family,” a clan of oil tycoons. Tim Robbins plays the father, Jonas Morehouse, while Kristen Wiig plays his daughter, Cynthia, who struggles to hide her adoration for her adopted brother Devon (Tobey Maguire).
Add in Haley Joel Osment as Cynthia’s “evil” son Winston, Michael Sheen as Cynthia’s “put upon husband” and Jessica Alba as Devon’s new love interest and you’ve got a recipe for a truly epic and hilarious story to unfold.
“This amazingly talented cast will give this decadent genre its due respect,” says Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC. “Never before has a parody of a mini-series been more poised for showers of accolades.”
Production on The Spoils of Babylon has just begun. The show’s six 30-minute episodes are set to debut on IFC in early 2014. As a series filled with booze, passion, pills, illegal arms deals and Will Ferrell as the Shah of Iran, The Spoils of Babylon is set for greatness, or at least some hilariously outlandish scenarios.
