In what will be the actress’ first TV role, Liv Tyler is attached to star alongside Justin Theroux in Damon Lindelof’s HBO pilot The Leftovers, Deadline is reporting.
The drama is based off Tom Perrotta’s book of the same name and will be directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night Lights, Hancock), while the script is co-written by Lindelof and Perrota.
The Leftovers centers around the group of people left behind after a strange Rapture-esque event, where a significant number of the world’s population randomly and inexplicably vanishes. Tyler will play Meg, a soon-to-be-married young woman who wants an escape and consequently becomes targeted for recruitment by a mysterious cult.
Tyler recently worked in indie flicks Space Station 76 and Jamie Marks Is Dead and co-wrote an etiquette book with her grandmother that is expected to be published this fall.
