Sorry Loki lovers: during a recent podcast interview with Empire, Joss Whedon revealed that the Marvel villain will not be returning for the Avengers sequel.
“Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment,” the director said. “First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things.”
While Loki appeared in 2011’s Thor and was the main villan in last year’s The Avengers, he will not appear the next Avengers installment.
But never fear Hiddleston fans: we won’t be completely without the devious Asgardian god. Loki will still appear in Thor: The Dark World, which will be released Nov. 8.
Production for Avengers 2 will start in 2014, and the superhero film is expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2015.
