Terminator will be back. In 2015, that is. Paramount has announced that the upcoming Terminator reboot will hit theaters on June, 25, 2015. The film will also be be the first film in a stand-alone trilogy, according to the studio’s press release.
Skydance Productions, Annapurna Pictures and Paramount Pictures have partnered on the new Terminator, which will be executive produced by Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake along with producers Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty) and David Ellison (Mission:Impossible: Ghost Protocol). Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are attached as screenwriters.
The original Terminator, directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was released in 1984 and spurned the release of three sequels. The series as a whole earned more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Though Schwarzenegger previously claimed he would appear in the next Terminator film, he was not mentioned in the press release. It’s unclear now whether he will actually return for the rebooted series.
