Tom Hardy to Star in Japanese Director Takashi Miike's The Outsider
Tom Hardy will play the lead in Silver Pictures’ upcoming project, The Outsider, according to Deadline.
The Outsider follows the life of a former American G.I. who joins the Japanese crime organization, the yakuza, in a post-World War II Japan. Director Takashi Miike is in talks to direct the Andrew Baldwin script, based on an original idea by John Linson, an executive producer for Sons of Anarchy who also worked on Fight Club and Lords of Dogtown.
Hardy starred in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises and 2011’s The Warrior, and could portray Elton John in the Michael Gacey-directed Rocketman. He is also expected to star in Mad Max: Fury Road, Animal Rescue with Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini, as well as Child 44 with Gary Oldman.
Miike has helmed over 50 projects, including Ichi the Killer, Gozu, Audition and Visitor Q, but The Outsider would mark his English-language debut. The director recently premiered Shield of Straw at Cannes.
