Okkervil River announced the first song from their forthcoming album, The Silver Gymnasium, via Twitter earlier this morning.
Frontman Will Sheff filmed the video in New Hampshire, at the Plainfield Town Hall where artist Maxfield Parrish’s 1916 backdrop sits. The set was created for a local play, depicting the quintessential New England forest landscape and designed so that it could simulate the different lighting found from dawn to nightfall.
In the video, Plainfield’s Town Librarian, Nancy Norwalk, demonstrates these various lighting schemes using the set’s over-one-hundred-year-old lighting system. As the song plays, the camera stays fixated on the backdrop as lyrics appear at the bottom of the screen.
“The song is track one from The Silver Gymnasium, a record we made with John Agnello that I am insanely proud of and that is coming out in September,” Sheff said on his website.
