After taking a week off after his mother’s passing, Stephen Colbert returned to the Colbert Report last night to deliver a heartfelt eulogy honoring his mother, Lorna Colbert, who passed away last week.
The show took on a more somber tone than usual as Colbert took several minutes to honor his mother. “When you watch the show, if you also like me, that’s because of my mom,” Colbert said.
A mother of 11 children, “she made a very loving home for us. No fight between siblings could end without hugs and kisses, though hugs never needed a reason in her house,” he said, barely holding back tears. “We were the light of her life and she let us know it till the end.”
In closing, Colbert said: “When I was leaving her last week, I leaned over and I said, ‘Mom, I’m going back to do the show.’ And she said, ‘I can’t wait to see it. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Lorna Colbert was 92. Watch the emotional tribute above.
