HBO has been firing on all cylinders lately, providing award-winning films, phenomenal series and even more of both set to premiere in the near future. Continuing the trend, HBO just released a teaser trailer for their upcoming series True Detective, a 2014 drama starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
According to Entertainment Weekly, True Detective—set to premiere in 2014—follows detectives Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), jumping between 1995 and the present, as they hunt for a Louisiana serial killer. Directed by Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre, Jane Eyre), the series is already set for an 8-episode season next year.
“It’s more about the detectives than it is about the killer,” Nic Pizzolatto—the show’s writer and executive producer—claims. “We trace both the case and the relationship [between the cops] and how they change — or don’t change — as the years progress.”
Future seasons would presumably follow the stories of separate cases with a new crime investigation for each season, à la Showtime’s Dexter. While the trailer doesn’t reveal much, it does give us a brief glimpse of the foreboding tone set forth by this upcoming series.
