Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning Announces New Album You Gots 2 Chill

Yes, Broken Social Scene is still on indefinite hiatus, but its members, like co-founder Brendan Canning, are still busy putting out new tunes.

With his second solo album—the follow-up to 2008’s Something For All Of Us—Canning delivers an intimate, homespun album, birthed in his Draper Street living room in Toronto, inviting you inside to take a break, chill out “and forget about the time of day and where you need to be,” according to a press release.

From recording You Gots 2 Chill sans Social Scene and ditching Arts & Crafts to release via his own indie label, to drawing the cover art himself, to recording tracks on voicemail, it’s littered with the musician’s personal touches. You Gots 2 Chill is set for an Oct. 1 release on Draper Street Records/SQE.
