After a successful run on the festival circuit, a documentary about the prolific late bloomer Charles Bradley will soon be released for the public. After his breakout moment came very late in life, the documentary begins at Bradley’s 62nd birthday and follows the whirlwind months leading up to the release of his debut album No Time for Dreaming. With a remarkable career that now includes two albums on Daptone Records, the doc captures the perseverance that catapulted Bradley from poverty to stardom.
The movie will be available digitally via iTunes on July 16 and in DVD format on Aug. 6 (pre-orders are now available through the Daptone store). Select theaters around the country will also screen Soul of America on specific dates in July, August and September. Watch the film’s trailer above.
