This year, Deer Tick frontman John McCauley will return to the Newport Folk Festival to play a solo set on Friday. Fans of the band will also be excited to know the rest of Deer Tick will be on-hand to play a series of after-parties that, in true Newport style, benefit a non-profit.
The band is set to play sets Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at the Newport Blues Café, and the proceeds from the sold-out shows go to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation. Each set also features killer supporting acts: Friday with Langhorne Slim and Bobby Bare Jr., Saturday with Justin Townes Earle and Jason Isbell, and Sunday with The Felice Brothers.
Although these sets have been long sold-out, the Deer Tick crew is running a contest for a chance to win two tickets to Sunday night’s concert, when the band is set to play its new album Negativity in full.
The band will be teasing the new album’s artwork on Saturday by flying a plane over the festival, which will carry a banner that reads “Negativity.” The Newport Folk Festival attendee who Instagrams the best picture of the plane using #negativity will win the tickets, so keep your eyes on the sky around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
