Fred Armisen Confirms SNL Departure

After 11 years on Saturday Night Live, Fred Armisen has added his name to the list of cast members exiting the show.

While we assumed Armisen would not be returning to SNL—especially after his exit on the May 18 season finale —the actor has now confirmed that he will not join the show for its next season. Armisen joins Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg in moving on from the sketch show. Seth Meyers is also expected to depart next year after he takes on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night slot.

Armisen confirmed his exit in an interview with Splitsider.

“I think it’s clear,” Armisen said. “I didn’t do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious. An ending that was a love letter to all the music I grew up with, and also to my friends and to SNL and to Lorne and to the cast. There was a lot of emotion attached to it, but it was a very positive emotion.”
