Kevin Devine Announces Two New Albums, Unveils First Single "Private First Class"

Kevin Devine took to his website yesterday to let fans in on a couple of exciting announcements.

After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that more than doubled his $50,000 goal, the singer-songwriter has finished recording Bulldozer and Bubblegum, a.k.a. “the solo record” and “the Goddamn Band record.” The two albums mark the musician’s seventh and eighth LPs, the first since 2011’s Between the Concrete & Clouds. The two albums are “written, recorded, mixed, mastered, art designed, and on their way to be manufactured.”

Bulldozers will be produced by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Dr. Dog), who has worked with Devine in the past on Put Your Ghost to Rest, Between The Concrete & Clouds and Bad Books’ II. Jesse Lacey of Brand New will produce Bubblegum. Both will be released via Devinyl Records on Oct. 15.

“I can’t promise every one of you will love everything on them; I never can, and I genuinely don’t think that’s what you’d want from me, anyway. I always got the sense that you respect & understand me enough to let me figure out that side of things, to grow my own weird way, to have faith that whatever the finished product, it will never be half-assed, never be arrived at without dedication, without passion,” he wrote on his Kickstarter.

Devine has also revealed the first morsel from Bubblegum, “Private First Class,” which is streaming exclusively over at AbsolutePunk.net. On Oct. 18, Devine and the Goddamn Band will be hitting the touring circuit, beginning in Akron, Ohio and ending Nov. 24 in Boston. A full list of dates for the Bubblegum tour can be found below. (Bulldozer will be getting its own focused tour in 2014.)

“Frankly, I’ve never been more excited about anything in my career to this point; hopefully, that ends up being contagious,” Devine said.
