Producer and composer RJD2 has been at the recording game for 15 years and, after clocking out for three of them, the Columbus-raised DJ is back in the ring—or the studio, rather—with his latest solo effort More Is Than Isn’t.

The recently announced project is mostly instrumental, but does feature guest vocalists in the form of Icebird collaborator Aaron Livingston, his Soul Position bandmate Blueprint, Little Brother’s Phonte Colman, P. Blackk, STS and Khari Mateen. However, on RJD2’s latest drop, “Her Majesty’s Socialist Request,” vocals are absent as the veteran ditches words for some heavy-hitting funk and his usual slick beats.

More Is Than Isn’t is described in a release as, conceptually, being “tied together by three instrumental pieces that are different explorations of the same harmonic theme. It captures a dynamic range not seen before on an RJD2 album, ranging from subdued jazz-tinged pieces to bombastic club music, and a lot of funk in between.”

“Just know that I wouldn’t bother releasing it if I didnt think it was funky as hell,” RJD2, aka RJ Krohn, said on his website.

More Is Than Isn’t marks RJD2’s fifth full-length LP and will be released on Oct. 8 via the artist’s own label, RJ’s Electrical Connections. Listen to “Her Majesty’s Socialist Request” below.
