Mad Men’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, has received much well-deserved credit for her iconic looks on one of cable’s most successful shows, and she’s even won an Emmy for her work on HBO’s Deadwood, but she’s about to get a whole lot more recognition.
Deadline reports that NBC’s Fashion Star producers E.J. Johnston and James Deutch are in talks with Bryant to make her the star of a new reality competition.
Tentatively titled Janie Bryant’s Hollywood, the show will see Bryant judging contestants who will be competing to make various pieces directly inspired from old Hollywood icons and films. Bryant will be one of a team of judges who oversees the competition.
“We loved the idea of tapping into someone like Bryant, who is great at finding a look and designing costumes for film and TV and seeing how it translates into the real world,” Deutch told Deadline. “Janie totally gets how to translate Hollywood to mainstream fashion.”
Deutch said they’ve just begun to pitch the idea to networks, but he said you can expect to see it on a channel that targets women and has had past success with fashion shows (think Bravo or E!).
