Kristen Wiig Says No to Bridesmaids Sequel

Although Bridesmaids fans have been begging for a second film, Kristen Wiig told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview that a sequel is not happening.

The 2011 comedy—which also stars Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Rebel Wilson and Ellie Kemper—raked in almost $300 million worldwide, but Wiig rejected the idea of a follow-up without hesitation.

“It wasn’t a hard decision,” she says. “We knew during the first one, this was it. We would have made a lot of money if there was a second one, but that’s not my goal in my creative life.”

Both director Paul Feig and co-star Melissa McCarthy have expressed that they wouldn’t mind returning for a sequel but gave Wiig, who wrote the film, the deciding vote. Feig and McCarthy have most recently collaborated on The Heat, which earned $40 million when it opened this past weekend.
