Mikal Cronin proved to the nation that a little bit does in fact go a long way. Cronin brought his road-ready anthem “Change” to Conan last night and proved exactly why the bulk of our writers included Cronin’s MCII on their Best Albums of 2013 So Far lists.
Cronin’s music is inherently filled with infectious, poppy hooks but layered in simplistic garage rock tones, but he had a few tricks up his sleeve on Conan. A four-piece string section lurked in the shadows and helped bulk up the intensity of Cronin’s climactic finish, providing a frenetic burst of heightened tension to close out the powerful performance.
MCII is out now on Merge Records.
