Watch Out! Sharknado Is Hitting New York City in Syfy Sequel
Yes, you read that right: There’s not going be just one but two Sharknados because it seems that one Sharknado is not enough, or global warming, or we don’t even know.
The title leaves nothing to the imagination. Sharknado was literally a movie about sharks that get sucked up into funnel clouds while Ian Ziering and Tara Reid were left to dodge the occasional flying Great Whites destroying Los Angeles. Now this time around, those pesky sharks will be terrorizing New York City.
Thomas Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies, Syfy, said in a press release, "Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”
The TV film became a social media phenomenon, so it makes sense that the network has launched a contest via Twitter to name the upcoming sequel in conjunction with the announcement. Fans can tweet their ideas to @SyfyMovie using #Sharknado. The best submission will appear as the film’s subtitle and mark the proudest moment of one Sharknado fan’s life.
The Asylum, the company behind the first installment, will also produce the sequel, which will debut on the Syfy network in 2014.
