Vampire Weekend Gives Valuable Advice to Teenage Girls

July 16, 2013  |  4:45pm

Vampire Weekend has become well-known in recent years for their catchy, indie pop melodies and Ivy League charm, but the guys also seem to have a gift for counseling teenage girls.

Today, vocalist Ezra Koenig and bassist Chris Baio appeared in a video to discuss sex, porn and relationship issues for Rookie, an online publication for teenage girls. The 17-minute video is part of the “Ask a Grown Man” series and features the indie rockers answering questions from teenage girls around the country, who ask exactly the kind of questions you’d expect high school gals to ask.

When asked by one girl whether it was okay that her boyfriend looked at porn occasionally, Koenig was quick to defend his sex.

“I’ve literally have never met a man who has told me that [pornography] is not a part of his life in one form or another,” the frontman said. “The world is full of porn. You actually have to work to not see porn these days.”

Other questions answered by the duo included: “If a guy tells me he likes my clothes, does that mean he likes me?” “Is it okay to break up over Facebook?” and “Should I tell him that I like him?”

Vampire Weekend joins a list of big-name stars who’ve participated in Rookie’s “Ask a Grown Man” series, including Thom Yorke, The Lonely Island and Jimmy Fallon. To see the full lineup, head over to the Rookie website. Catch the Vampire Weekend edition above.
