First there was talk of $50 million deals with Christian Bale, then there were mentions of Ryan Gosling and Armie Hammer as the caped crusader. But now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Man of Steel sequel has found its Batman—and it’s neither one of those guys.
Ben Affleck has been announced as the next actor to don the Batman cowl. That’s right, Daredevil himself will take on the role on one of America’s most-recognized superheroes in a film that will see Superman and Batman together on the big-screen for the first time. Affleck will join Henry Cavill as Superman, and the sequel will again be directed by Zack Snyder.
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman,” Snyder said in a statement. “He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
The film is expected to be released on July 17, 2015.
