Comedy Central Announces Nationwide Search for Next Best Stand-Up Comedian
Attention all comedians and funny people alike: Comedy Central is putting together an event in pursuit of finding comedy’s next best stand-up comedian.
Comedy Central made the announcement today, which states that the official competition will run from Sept. 3-23 and continues through to the finals on Nov. 6.
Here’s how the competition breaks down: all throughout September, 26 participating Certified Clubs will host “Up Next” where comedians all around the country can enter and compete. After the first round, Jonah Ray will host as MC for four regional showcases with 30-plus semi-finalists from Oct. 9-23.
For the finals, eight remaining comedians will appear at The New York Comedy Festival’s annual “Comics to Watch” show on Wednesday, Nov. 6. The final round will be recorded to air on Comedy Central Radio and on SiriusXM.
“By empowering the Comedy Central Certified Clubs’ initiative on a local level with a national talent search, the results yield a forging relationship with the venues and an exclusive pipeline of new, emerging talent to the network,” said Mitch Fried, executive vice president of Comedy Central Enterprises.
If you happen to be lucky and talented enough to claim the throne of the next best stand-up comedian, you’re walking away with some pretty sweet incentives. The winner gets to tour on CC’s college tour, a guest-host spot on their SiriusXM radio show, a spot on a future comedy series, $2,500 in cash and more. Those jokes won’t write themselves, people. Get started.
