Disney Reveals New Details of Toy Story Halloween Special
Earlier this year, Pixar announced that they’d be continuing the adventures of everyone’s favorite toy troupe with a Halloween-themed animated short called Toy Story of Terror, and now we finally have new details on upcoming special.
At the biennial D23 expo this weekend, Disney announced that the 30-minute special is set to appear just in time for the horror-day spirit in mid-October. The studio also screened the special’s first 10 minutes, giving fans a small idea of what to expect when Woody, Buzz and the gang return later this year.
According to SlashFilm.com, the toys are on a short vacation to Bonnie’s grandmother’s house when they run into some car trouble and are forced to stay in a motel overnight. Once at the motel, Mr. Potato Head mysteriously vanishes, leading Buzz, Woody and Jessie to investigate. Over the course of the night, more toys begin to vanish as Pixar animators make nods to several classic horror films.
Devoted fans can rest assured the short will be up to normal Disney/Pixar standards. It is directed by Angus MacLane (who has worked on every Pixar theatrical release since A Bug’s Life), and will star all of the voices we’ve come to associate with the iconic toys, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Timothy Dalton, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn and Kristen Schaal.
And for those who can’t do mildly scary movies that are targeted toward young families with small children, fret not. Pixar is planning another Toy Story short release for April 2014.
Toy Story of Terror will air on Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
