After scoring two films by director David Gordon Green, most recently his dark comedy Prince Avalanche, Explosions in the Sky have been called back to compose yet another batch of songs for a Green project titled Manglehorn.
The film—penned by Paul Logan—stars Al Pacino as A.J. Manglehorn, a man haunted by a past crime that cost him the love of his life.
Between gigs opening for the Nine Inch Nails on their reunion tour, the group will begin shaping the soundtrack with fellow Austin composer David Wingo. The band first collaborated with the composer on Green’s 2003 comedy All the Real Girls.
But for those hungry for the group to return with their own material, the band has announced that following the tour and the soundtrack, they’ll begin recording their follow-up to 2011’s Take Care, Take Care, Take Care for an early 2014 release.
Prince Avalanche, which stars Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch as goofy highway workers, makes its debut on the big screen on Aug. 9. Its film score hits shelves Aug. 6 via Temporary Residence Ltd. but can be streamed in-full at EW.com in the meantime.
