The Avett Brothers Announce New Album Magpie and the Dandelion
It’s barely been a year since The Avett Brothers released The Carpenter, but the band has not only set a release date for their follow-up, they’ve also shared a new song. This morning NPR shared a brand new track from the North Carolina folk-rock sensation and announced the upcoming release of Magpie and the Dandelion.
The Avetts recently released a letter that details what the band has been up to throughout the past year, following the release of their Grammy-nominated album The Carpenter. The band detailed that while they were working on The Carpenter with Rick Rubin, they found themselves so inspired that they wrote another record.
“During those sessions, we just felt it. Working with Rick Rubin again, we tapped into something very special. It’s like everybody was in the same zone.”
The band said Magpie and the Dandelion highlights the “youthful wonder” that magpies and dandelions elicit. “If you think about a Magpie, it’s a bird from the crow family” the Avetts state. “You can see them everywhere, and they’ve got this strange grace. And, we all know what a dandelion is. It reminds you of being a kid and watching a flower come apart on a summer day those kinds of feelings live and breathe inside this album.”
On “Another Is Waiting” the Avetts sing of societal woes like “doctored pictures” in magazines and being stuck on conveyor belts with this harmony laden tune. Magpie and the Dandelion’s will be released on Oct. 15 and you can listen to the new track over at NPR.
