Now You See Me Sequel is in the Works
Although Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me received less than enthusiastic reviews (including our own), a sequel to the magician thriller is in the works.
Variety reports that Lionsgate has started to develop a second installment and is fast-tracking the project for a 2014 release.
As of now, there is no word on whether the original cast will return, which included Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco. Now You See Me had a $75 million budget but has already grossed $255 million worldwide.
“This is a perfect example of how we’re benefiting from the unique international infrastructure of output deals, joint ventures and self-distribution we’ve set in place to maximize value and minimize risk,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. He also predicts that the film’s final gross would top out at $275, generating just over three times the profit.
